teaching objectives and requirements
As China continues to develop its connections in many fields, English Public Speaking is becoming increasingly important. The opportunity and necessity for public speaking in English are expanding in science, technology, politics, business, law, journalism, and in most fields of education. It is no longer enough to simply study English or Oral English, the time has come to develop the skills of communication both with individuals as well as large groups of people and this is what Public Speaking can help you achieve.

This class will teach about the variety of types of speeches – prepared speeches where you have a longer time to prepare and impromptu where your preparation is confined to a matter of minutes. We will study how to organize your thoughts, write speeches as well as the art of delivering them to secure the maximum effect. We will deal with the different goals of speeches and the importance of focusing on those goals. Other matters to be covered include the importance of your audience, the proper use of language and appropriate use of visual aids. You will be responsible for presenting several presentations, some of which will require you to do research. Finally, you will learn the importance of time in public speaking.

Phone and wechat: 15801604547We will set up a class wechat group on the first day of class.Any communication must be in English for two reasons. First, I neither read nor speak Chinese. Second, even if I did, I am here to teach you to communicate in English, not in Chinese.

 

考核方式:

Class Participation 20% – Attendance will not be taken. You are adults and ultimately responsible for your own education. But everyone is expected to be prepared AND to actively participate in all classroom activities. Obviously, if you are not in class, you will not be able to participate.

Mid-Term Speech – 30% of your mark.

Final Assignment – 50% of your mark. Visual aids can be used and may be helpful but the key to success is a well-prepared speech and delivery.
